March-Aprilish 2000
Pro wrestling was still cool. Stone Cold, The Rock, etc. , were widely imitated throughout my middle school. Being that my dad is southern, and Hulk Hogan being the shiznit back when I was way younger, I was kind of into it. However, the advent of Power Rangers captured my fanaticism and subsequent Christmas wish lists. But then, Mankind, aka Mick Foley drew me back in. As impressionable as I was, I imitated him somewhat in school. My renewed fanaticism led to me saying pro wrestler when we had the obligatory "When I grow up" assignment. The laughter and teasing led to me being named "Hardcore" Nick Orr.
September 2000
Freshman year of High School. I joined the wrestling team at the behest of my mom, who wanted me in a "real" sport. Some of my middle school friends remembered the "Hardcore" moniker, and a nickname was fully born.
It's catchiness, as well as how bad ass it sounds lead me to using it in my various online handles and as a pen name in some writings online. Also of note, I did try my hand at pro wrestling training in 2005. It only lasted about 2 weeks due to financial constraints. Still, my neck pain in the mornings reminds me of that experience.
